Don't Judge a Book by its Cover!

The day we had our class on bullying was an eye opener. We started off the class by doing an exercise where we put tape on the floor and we stepped on it every time they said something about bullying that pertained to us. As I stepped on the tape, I looked around. It was weird to see how many people in the class had been affected by bullying. Sometimes it was people that I never would have suspected. It made me think about something though. If it has effected that many people in my class, how many other people are affected by it right now in the real world? When we were done with that activity, we sat down and watched a video. It showed us how people who are being bullied feel. It helped us imagine how they feel and put ourselves in their shoes. It made me very upset. It touched me so much that I almost cried. Some of the teens in the video were bullied so bad that they wanted to kill themselves. People are bullied because of where they come from, their sexual orientation, their beliefs, their values, or even for the way they look (something we have no control over). After we watched the video, we named many times of bullying and wrote them on the board. I was amazed at how many ways bullying effects people. When class was over, a few people asked questions and then class was dismissed. After that class, I will never even think about bullying anyone. It hurts them tremendously. It can cause them to want to harm themselves in dangerous ways. They may end up wanting to commit suicide or cut themselves. I learned that gossiping about people is bullying. I never thought about it like that though.  I have never been bullied but I feel like I now understand what they go through every day. They are tortured.Everyone is important. No one deserves to be treated they they are insignificant. I would never want anyone to feel like I am a bully. I care about people way too much for that. Bullying is wrong and it needs to be put to an end IMMEDIATELY! It does not make you cool to talk about and harass other people."Never be bullied into silence. Never allow yourself to be made a victim. Accept no one's definition of your life; define yourself "(Harvey Fierstin).
